1 pack = 1 Free School Lunch

1 pack = 1 Free School Lunch

An Open Letter from Howdah to you!

Dear British Snack Lovers,

Crisps, nuts, things to dip, crunch and munch on. In front of the TV, on the train, at your desk. We hear you Britain – you love snacks. So do we! But what about a snack that not only satisfies your tastebuds, but actually makes a difference in the world. What if we told you that by just enjoying a snack, you could change a child in need’s day, week – even life?

As you might already know, Howdah was founded by Indian entrepreneur Falu Shah, whose vision was to combine a great product with a good cause, to empower consumers to feed the future, one delicious bite at a time. So, Howdah created the snack that gives back: for every bag sold, Howdah provides a meal for a child in India by working with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, an Indian NGO, that strives to eliminate classroom hunger.

The volume of snacks we consume in the UK is huge – and we mean colossal. Recent data shows that 63% of UK adults eat one snack a day. You can believe that right? So, here’s the cool bit. Imagine if even just a fraction of those ate a Howdah snack instead? Say even a quarter of people. That would be over ten MILLION bags sold. Which equals ten MILLION meals for children in need in India. All without Brits donating any money, without doing anything extra – it’s so easy.

Because the devastating thing is, millions of children miss out on education because of hunger. Hungry children cannot concentrate, and many parents can't afford to educate their children so it means they don’t go to school and receive a free meal. India alone is home to a third of the world's malnourished children – 3000 of whom die every day from hunger-related illnesses.

Howdah’s brilliantly simple one-snack-one-meal initiative means that more parents in India will send their children to school to receive a free meal at lunchtime, meaning they get nourished and receive an education. Falu’s mission is to give away one million meals by the end of 2021, with over 470,000 delivered so far.

So, Britain, that’s why, in the run up to Christmas this year, we are asking you to Give Back As You Snack. It really is that simple. Indulge in a delicious, authentic Indian snack, knowing that you are giving someone a meal too. Join us on our mission to change the world through great snacks.

Yours snackfully,

Howdah

WE'VE GIVEN MORE THAN 470,000 LUNCHES... AND COUNTING!

OUR MISSION IS SIMPLE. SELL SNACKS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Our one-snack-one-meal initiative aims to get more children into education through our food. Simply buying a pack helps to feed children who lack the means – but have the drive – to learn, helping to change their lives and those of their family forever.

The problem:

Hunger is one of the biggest barriers to education. Hungry children cannot concentrate, and many parents can't afford to educate their children because of the cost of school meals. India alone is home to a third of the world's malnourished children – 3000 of whom die every day from hunger-related illnesses. Without the means to pay for school meals, 15 million Indian children drop out of education and end up in child labour.

The solution:

Every time we sell a pack, we give a free school lunch to a child in need, through our partnership with the incredible charity Akshaya Patra. This is often the only nutritious meal they’ll get in a day so, by encouraging these children to go to school and feeding them properly, we give their parents the motivation to support their children's education and, most importantly, we can help the children themselves to get the skills they need to build brighter futures.
